Pushies Galore – Bikes in Brisbane

Pushies Galore describes itself as a “community-based event of bike (and bike bits) swapping, haggling, selling and trading”. I popped in to have a look this morning and yes, there were lots of bikes, from beautiful old treadlies in need of some TLC to refurbished vintage push bikes restored to their former glory, and state-of-the-art road bikes that you see being ridden in Brisbane’s early morning by packs of MAMILS (middle-aged men in lycra).

Treadlie Magazine sponsored prizes and if you’d like find out about more biking events in Brisbane, you can sign up to Biking Brisbane’s newsletter.

There were also some things I didn’t expect to see:

Craft from Birds of a Feather

A craft table with wonderful creations made by a group of crafters called Birds of a Feather. Pushies Galore was held at the Holland Park Bowls Club and this group of crafters meets there every week.

Smoothies Made With Cycle Power

The clever people at The Smoothie Cycle offer delicious smoothies made with organic ingredients, but the really clever part is the blenders are cycle powered!  So you can pop on one of their bikes and whizz up your own smoothie, or they’ll do it for you.

Coffee from a Kombi Van

There’s something about the sight of a Kombi Van, especially one called ‘Muriel’ that makes you want to pack in your job and travel around Australia, but today I had to be satisfied with a coffee from this neatly fitted out, mobile coffee shop.  They’re called Kombi Koffein.
