The Kangaroo Point cliffs are a great spot for catching views of the river, City Botanic Gardens, and behind all of the green space, the tall city buildings. You can take in the view from the top of the cliffs along River Terrace or at the cliff’s base. The base can be reached by steep steps and there is some parking on Lower River Terrace. You can also take one of the small inner city ferries to either the River Plaza Ferry Terminal or Thornton Street Ferry Terminal.
There are walking tracks along the river, picnics tables and free BBQs. On a fine day you’re likely to see rock climbers scaling the red cliffs. In the warmer months climbers prefer the evenings when the rock is cooler, and with giant spotlights lighting the cliffs, nightfall attracts more of this gravity-defying athletes.
If you haven’t brought a picnic lunch, there’s a new cafe perched right on top of the Kangaroo Point cliffs. They’re open every day for breakfast and lunch and the views are spectacular. They also serve take away ice creams.
